Meet the Artist

Lissa, a native of Mississippi, spent 11 years in Washington, DC, at the start of her career before settling in the Charleston, SC, area. Her artistic journey began with early training in her school's gifted studies program, where she was introduced to poetry, watercolor, and illustration. She further developed her skills in a high school art class, notably winning second place in the state's Duck Stamp contest with an acrylic painting of a hooded merganser.

Lissa has experience in a variety of industries, including floral design where she specialized in wedding flowers and installations. After the pandemic, she returned to the traditional art skills she learned in her youth. With the encouragement of friends and family, she decided to pursue her art more seriously, building this website to share her work with others.

Currently, Lissa's artistic practice involves painting with gouache and oil pastels, and creating mixed-media pieces with embroidery techniques and found objects. Her work is deeply inspired by plants, flowers, the ocean, and salt marshes. Through her art, she seeks to channel the serenity of nature, focusing on finding peace in the present moment.

Long strips of gouache painted paper, torn, and hand sewn using a variety of hand embroidery stitches, in a 16"x20" white frame, matted to 11"x14" to display this mixed media piece.
